- CAUSES. The bacterium Pasteurella pestis which is transmitted by rodents is
- the cause of Bubonic plague. It has long been called the "black plague".
- Pneumonic plague produces sputum with specks of blood, coughing & pneumonia.
- TREATMENT. Antibiotics are effective more than 95 percent of the time.
